Tulsarama!

We're still working on the Beetle, but also taking time out to experience all the fun things that go on in our area. One of our local events that made national news and apparently of international interest was our Tulsarama.

Fifty years ago, Tulsa had a Tulsarama where the people buried a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere. This past weekend was the unearthing and unveiling.

With much excitement the car was dug up, only to find that it had been immersed in water repeatedly over the past 50 years.

Sadly the car was simply ruined.

So many people were disappointed...but then the people of Oklahoma did what they do best. They lifted their chins and dusted off their hands and made the very best of the situation. Every salvageable item in the car was celebrated! Then they threw a great party!

We attended the party and once again I was reminded why I love living here so much.

There was a car show at Tulsarama and as always, we were inspired and encouraged by the folks that had restored old cars themselves. So finally, Sunday afternoon we went out and started working on the Beetle. Still patching rust holes. Here's another one fixed and the one up above it is just about ready to patch.

Steve wants to get all these little holes fixed before putting the heater channels and the floor pans into place...they're just easier to reach. The holes that were in the bottom corners of the luggage compartment behind the back seat were especially hard, because they were several layers thick. But layer by layer, Steve is rebuilding them.
